Our Love Story

In 2016, neither of us was looking for love. After coming from long-term relationships—Jayson from an 8-year relationship and Cai from a 6-year relationship—we both thought it was time to focus on ourselves instead.

Little did we know that God had a different plan.

We first met during the 2016 Christmas Party of Reliance United. At that time, Cai was a Clinic Nurse in the Cubao branch, while Jayson was a Sales Supervisor handling several Health First Clinic branches. Although we had probably seen each other before, we had never really met.

At the end of the party, Jayson invited a few employees heading in the same direction to share a Grab ride. Cai and one of her coworkers joined. It seemed like a simple ride home, but by the next day, our managers and colleagues were already teasing us. What started as a joke eventually became the beginning of our story.

Not long after, Jayson started messaging Cai and eventually asked her out. As he was courting her, Cai received an acceptance letter from the Japanese Embassy to study Nihongo and pursue better career opportunities in Japan. Knowing that distance would soon separate them, Jayson still chose to continue pursuing her. His consistency and sincerity convinced Cai to take a leap of faith, and they officially became a couple.

Just four months later, Cai left for Japan. Despite the distance, they made their relationship work by visiting each other every six months—whether it meant Jayson flying to Japan or Cai coming home to the Philippines. After three years of long-distance love, Cai finally returned home.

In December 2019, during Cai’s family Christmas celebration, Jayson surprised her with a proposal in front of both of their families. She happily said “Yes,” and they immediately started planning their church wedding for 2020.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything. Cai had returned to Japan to save for their wedding but became stranded because of the lockdown, forcing them to postpone their plans.

When Cai came home, she pursued her dream of becoming an optometrist. In 2021, rather than waiting any longer, they chose to have a civil wedding. That same year, they welcomed their first and greatest blessing, their son, Rovic. Together, they focused on raising their family while Jayson fully supported Cai through Optometry school.

Their hard work paid off. In 2025, Cai graduated from Optometry School and passed the Optometrist Licensure Examination. In 2026, she began working at Executive Optical, making it finally possible to continue planning the church wedding they had postponed years before.

As they prepared for their long-awaited wedding, they received another unexpected blessing—they were expecting their second child.

After years of long-distance love, postponed plans, personal sacrifices, career milestones, and building a family together, they realized that the perfect time had finally arrived.

Today, they celebrate not only the fulfillment of a promise made years ago, but also a love that has remained faithful through every season. Their journey proves that while life doesn’t always go according to plan, God’s timing is always worth the wait.
