Our Love Story
When Two Lost Paths Intersected, They Became One Journey.
Ours is a story of fate and second chances.
Before we found each other, we were both quietly carrying the weight of long-term broken relationships. We were simply going through the motions of everyday life, trying to survive, trying to heal, and trying to figure out where life was leading us.
As I said during Joel's 50th birthday celebration, "We were both trying to find our way, but we intersected." Looking back now, those words perfectly describe how our story began.
Our paths crossed in 2018 at Notre Dame of Dadiangas University Senior High School Department. I had just joined the faculty as a teacher, while Joel had been borrowed from the Nursing Department to teach Biology. I was the class adviser, and he was one of my students' subject teachers.
Our very first encounter still makes us laugh.
Joel came to my classroom looking for one of my advisees. Since I had never met him before, I innocently asked, "Are you here as a parent or a teacher?" Mistaking him for one of my students' parents became our first unforgettable memory—and one of our favorite stories to tell.
Not long after, our colleagues—especially Joel's ever-supportive teacher friends—began teasing us. Our students eagerly joined in, doing what students do best: creating opportunities for us to cross paths. From orchestrated encounters during Teachers' Day at the gym to a spontaneous classroom serenade and countless playful moments, everyone seemed determined to write the first chapter of our story before we even realized there was one.
Contrary to what many would expect, ours was not love at first sight.
For Joel, there was an undeniable attraction, and perhaps even the quiet concern that someone else might come along before he had the chance. That became enough reason for him to make the first move.
For me, it was different.
I simply thought, "Why not get to know him better? He seems like a decent man." I wasn't searching for love. I wasn't expecting anything extraordinary. I just allowed friendship to grow, believing that perhaps feelings would follow.
And they did.
What began as friendly teasing slowly became meaningful conversations, shared laughter, growing admiration, and eventually, love. A simple joke that everyone else seemed to believe in before we did, became the very thing that changed both our lives.
In December 2019, we officially became a couple.
The years that followed strengthened what had quietly begun in the faculty halls. We discovered that love doesn't always arrive with fireworks or grand declarations. Sometimes, it grows gently, steadily, and faithfully—until one day, you simply know you've found your person.
Then came September 2025.
True to Joel's nature as a man of few words, there was no elaborate setup, no dramatic speech, and no romantic fanfare. Instead, he simply said,
"Let's get married."
Not as a question, but as a declaration.
There was no ring, either.
But I knew he meant every word. His sincerity mattered far more than any grand gesture.
Of course, I couldn't resist teasing him. I would jokingly remind him, "It's not official unless there's a ring." Every time, he would simply smile at me without saying a word.
What I didn't know was that while I was playfully asking for a ring, Joel had already been quietly planning something far beyond what I imagined. Together with his colleagues and students from the Nursing Department, he was secretly preparing the proposal I never saw coming.
Then, in January 2026, halfway across the world at the breathtaking skywalk of King Power Mahanakhon in Bangkok, Thailand, Joel finally gave me the answer to all my playful reminders.
With a ring in his hands, he got down on one knee.
It was everything I never expected from a man who rarely spoke many words—but whose actions had always spoken the loudest.
Looking back, it is amazing how a mistaken identity, endless teasing from friends and students, and two people trying to rebuild their lives became the beginning of something so beautiful.
What started as two broken paths eventually became one shared journey.
And this is only the beginning of our forever.
